the Jiggers
The Jiggers were originally NZ Railways' hand-operated carts designed to allow track maintenance crews to move easily and relatively quickly from their depot to the section of line that needed work. The tools required were heavy, so having a small wagon to carry them greatly helped the team get the work done. Each Jigger could carry four workmen.
The Jiggers came to Heritage Park in 1975. After motorisation and restoration they were the first vehicles used to carry passengers for rides. Riding on them is great fun, and we run ours down the tram track from Millington Bush station - unless it's raining!
